PSG – Olympique Marseille

It’s time for another edition of the great French derby between PSG and Olympique Marseille. This Ligue 1 classis is going to be played on Sunday at the Parc des Princes in the capital. Let’s take a look.

It’s not really that shocking that PSG are leading the Ligue 1 table right now with 24 points won, having 5 points advantage in front of the second Nantes. The champions are the obvious favourites to win the league again, but it’s old news.

Of course, Ligue 1 is not a challenge for PSG anymore. Right now the Parisians’ biggest goal remains winning the Champions League for a first time. During the week Thomas Tuchel’s recorded their third consecutive win in the group stage, beating Club Brugge with 5-0 away from home. Kylian Mbappe scored a hattrick for the visitors, while Mauro Icardi added a brace.

The big absentee in PSG’s squad is once again Neymar. The Brazilain star is injured again, so he missed the trip to Belgium in the Champions League. Most likely he won’t feature against Marseille during the weekend.

Olympique Marseille on the other hand are currently 4th in the league with 16 points won so far, just one point behind the third Reims and the Champions League zone. In 10 games played in the Ligue 1 so far, Marseille have won four of them. Their manager Andre Villas-Boas probably hoped for more, but clearly he’s still trying to get to know the team better.

In their last game in the French league Olympique Marseille enjoyed a win, beating Strasbourg with 2-0 at the Velodrome. Boubacar Kamara opened the score after just three minutes of playing, while Kevin Strootman made it 2-0 from a penalty kick in the last seconds.

Even without the once again injured Neymar, PSG are huge favourites to take the Ligue 1 derby against Olympique Marseille. The champions have a good enough squad to take the three points,e specially when Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi are showing such a fine form.
