Real Madrid hosts Espanyol

Real Madrid hosts Espanyol at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in a fixture from the 16th round of La Liga. Can the Catalans trouble Los Blancos on Saturday? We shall take a look.

Real Madrid are serious about winning the title in Spain this season. Right now Los Blancos are second in the standings with 31 points, but on the same level as the leader Barcelona. Madrid and Barca also have a game in hand compared to the rest of the teams in La Liga.

Real Madrid won four of their last five games in La Liga. They are also the team with the less amount of losses in the league so far – just one. It’s going to be a great battle with Barcelona for the title, but we should also not underrestimate teams like Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.

In the previous round Zinedine Zidane’s team travelled to face Deportivo Alaves and achieved a 2-1 win. Gareth Bale and Isco returned to the starting eleven, while Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal scored the goals for the win.

Eden Hazard is missing this game because of injury, while James Rodriguez, Nacho and Lucas Vasquez are also sidelined.

Espanyol are having a bad season so far. Los Perricos already changed their manager once, but they are still in the relegation zone, being 19th with just 9 points. So far the new head coach Pablo Machin is unable to stabilize the team. Espanyol have won just two matches since the beginning of the season.

In the previous round Espanyol hosted Osasuna in Barcelona, but suffered a 2-4 defeat. Marc Roca and Jonathan Calleri scored for the Catalans, but it was far from enough.

We don’t have any doubts that Real Madrid are going to take the whole three points against Espanyol. Zidane’s boys are aware that they can’t make a mistake against such an opposition at home ground. The win is a must here.
