Red Bull Salzburg – Real Sociedad

Red Bull Salzburg welcomes Real Sociedad in a second leg from the 1/16-finals of Europa League. The first game in San Sebastian ended with a 2-2 draw, which gives the Austrian team a slight advantage before the rematch.

It was an interesting game at the Estadio Anoeta a week ago. Alvaro Odriozola and Adnan Januzaj scored for La Real, while Mikel Oyarzabal scored himself an own goal. The game was about to end with a 2-1 result in favour of Real Sociedad, but the Japanese Takumi Minamino equalized seconds before the final whistle.

This result in the first leg gives Salzburg a slight advantage before the second leg. They didn’t lose the first match and they scored two vital away goals. If they play their cards right, they are in a great position to eliminate Real Sociedad and continue to the 1/8-finals.

In the Austrian Bundesliga Red Bull Salzburg are convincing leaders. They have 52 points won and 7 points advantage in front of the 2nd Sturm Graz. Their record so far is 15 wins, 7 draws and 1 loss. In their last five league games Salzburg made two draws, but now they are enjoying three consecutive wins in the league.

Meawhile for Real Sociedad it’s not the best possible season in La Liga. La Real are currently 12th in the league standings, which is not good at all. Last season the Basques played great football and qualified with an ease in the Top 6. But now they are not even close to their old levels.

Can they improve in the Europa League? Well, first they must eliminate Red Bull Salzburg and it won’t be easy after the result in the first leg. The truth is that Real Sociedad missed their chance to beat the Austrian team and now they have to do it on hostile ground.
