Sweden – Portugal

Sweden hosts Portugal at the Friends Arena in a match from League A’s Group 3 of the Nations League. This should be a good one, so let’s check it out in this preview.

Sweden didn’t have the luck to start their Nations League campaign with a positive result. The Scandinavians hosted France few days ago, but suffered a 0-1 defeat. Kylian Mbappe scored the only goal in the game, while Sweden’s efforts didn’t lead to a goal. In the second half the manager Janne Andersson made some changes, but the inclusion of Kulusevski, Guidetti and Sema did not change the game.

We can’t say Sweden did something really wrong against France, but once again we saw how important it could be to have players with Kylian Mbappe’s qualities. The PSG striker made the difference with his amazing solo effort at the end of the first half.

Portugal are the current Nations League champions and they made an impressive performance in their first game. Selecao faced the World Cup finalists Croatia in Porto and achieved a stunning 4-1 win. Even without their injured star Cristiano Ronaldo the Portuguese players dominated the game and scored four times.

Joao Cancelo opened the score for Portugal, while Diogo Jota doubled their lead. Until the end of the game Joao Felix and Andre Silva scored for Selecao as well.

At this moment it’s still not clear if Cristiano Ronaldo would be able to play for Portugal against Sweden. The manager Fernando Santos admitted Ronaldo is feeling better now, but he still has some problems because of toe infection. He’s in doubt for the next game, Santos confirmed.

That’s our preview for the Nations League game between Sweden and Portugal on Tuesday. With or without Ronaldo, Portugal look like the better team at the moment. Let’s see if they are going to repeat their performance from the match against Croatia few days ago.
